RUNNING AN INCLUSIVE, ENERGISING CAMPAIGN

From my years of campaigning, I know that you win by bringing people together across our movement. That’s what I will do. Across the new constituency, we’ll learn from each other, and together, we will build a positive and energising alternative for our community. Together, we will earn local people’s trust and support.

PUTTING OUR COMMUNITY FIRST

I grew up in Adel, so I know our community well. I pledge to be a highly visible MP in the constituency. I will have a prominent and accessible constituency office. I will hold regular and well-advertised surgeries in every ward.

LISTENING TO YOU

Life and the issues that come with it are ever-changing. I want to actively work with party members and constituents to understand and address the issues that come our way. I will attend general committee meetings, have regular meetings with councillors and have regular Zoom calls for constituents. I won't think I have all the answers. I will regularly ask you how I can help preserve, maintain or improve our community.

KEEPING YOU INFORMED AND DOING WHAT  I SAY

I will produce a weekly newsletter that I will email you and make available online, informing you of my work locally and nationally for Leeds North West. I will tell you what I am going to do about issues as opposed to telling you what the other political parties have not done. I will respond to all emails.

my priorities

I promise to fight hard on all these issues, and more, if you choose me as your Labour Member of Parliament.

Cost of Living

The last few years have been tough: energy bills, rent, mortgages, food and even school uniforms, they’ve all gone up. Knock on any door as a Labour campaigner and you’ll hear people’s heartbreaking stories of how they’re struggling to pay their bills or even put food on the table. The Tory approach to the economy has failed. As your MP, I’ll back Labour’s plans to cut energy bills and campaign for better pay and rights for working people. And I vow to make cutting the cost of childcare one of my top priorities as an MP.

safety

Over the last 13 years, the Tories have cut community policing to the bone and sent confidence levels plummeting. I believe people have a right to feel safer on the streets, in their homes and online, and we must meet our obligation to protect women and girls against violence. I will make it my mission to increase resources to community policing in our neighbourhoods.

HOUSING

Everyone deserves a decent place to call home. I will fight to ensure that Leeds City Council receives the resources it needs to maintain and repair the 54,000 properties it manages. No social housing should be left empty because there is a lack of funds to make it fit for occupation.

YOUNG PEOPLE

As well as being a proud mum to two young daughters, I am a trustee of a local foundation using sport to support children in challenging circumstances, a Chair of a charity involved in better mental health and a former school governor. I know the challenges young people face in this generation. I will be an advocate for funding our schools and supporting our young people with the practical and emotional skills they need for the world today and tomorrow. And I pledge to ensure every school in Leeds gets its fair share of the new mental health specialists that a Labour government will deliver.

Champion Community Campaigns

I will champion projects to improve our community; those that will create new leisure activities and things to enjoy in our local area. I will take every opportunity to champion these campaigns both locally and in Westminster.

CLIMATE AND JOBS

I have always been passionate about tackling the huge harms that come from climate change. But our greatest challenge we face in this generation is having the will, skills and vision to transform that climate risk into local jobs in Leeds and across Yorkshire. With the right plan, we can tackle climate change by investing in our homes and infrastructure and creating well-paid and exciting job opportunities. I will be a forceful advocate for Labour's green prosperity plan, and for Leeds and Yorkshire to get our share of the green jobs of the future.

LOCAL HIGH STREET AND BUSINESS

Business rates are one of the biggest problems for local businesses on our high streets. I will work with Rachel Reeves to reform business rates to better support our local area, its shops and businesses.

transport

Our local bus services often feel too expensive, unreliable, and disconnected. I will support West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin’s plan to take full control of the bus network so they operate in the interests of local bus users. I will champion an increase in funding for better routes and timetables in our area; with a move to cleaner buses. I will fight to protect our rail services and ticket offices.

Health

Under the Tories, it’s becoming harder and harder to get a GP appointment and our health services are struggling. I will fight for more funding for our local health services and be unwavering in my support for our National Health Service - Labour’s greatest achievement in Government. I believe mental health has to be genuinely a priority and I will seek to access more funding and more provision for support in our community.

airport

I want to see the jobs and opportunities provided by Leeds Bradford Airport protected, while preventing any attempt to increase night flights via a backdoor. I believe we must accelerate the move to lower carbon flying as part of our transition to a modern, net-zero economy.
